I was stationed in Indonesia as an expatriate from 2015 to 2019. At that time, the lunch break was the most important time of the working day for me.
I often went to the local eateries (warung) near the industrial park and tried to adapt to the lifestyle of the local people.
When I went to the warung, my favorite dish was "Perkedel". It is a croquette made from mashed potatoes, and I ordered it every time. I really miss it.

After a meal, I enjoyed snacking on "Kerupuk", a crispy and light snack. This snack is similar to shrimp crackers, but with a lighter texture, made from tapioca flour, fish and shrimp paste, which are mixed together and fried until firm.
The warung had a container on each dining table with many Kerupuk in them. I would always take one out and eat it after lunch ....
Oh...I got hungry all of a sudden...
I checked the kitchen cabinet for snacks (mooncakes) that I had brought from Malaysia, but they were already gone. Then, I remembered Kerupuk - a snack that I used to eat frequently in Indonesia. I began to crave Kerupuk once again.
"Is it possible to get Kerupuk in Nagoya?"
I searched online by typing "Indonesia, Nagoya, store", but the top results were all Indonesian restaurants. I was unable to find the store I needed. I asked an Indonesian living in Nagoya whom I had recently met through the language learning application "Hello Talk" if I could buy Kerupuk somewhere.
He told me about a store called "Halal Kombini Plus+" near Tsurumai Station in Nagoya.
I checked the store's reviews on Google and found information that the store sells a lot of Indonesian halal food. It seems to be close to Tsurumai subway station.
So I decided to visit the store right away.
The Halal Kombini Plus is in the attached blue circle. It is a 5 minute walk from Tsurumai subway station.
When you visit Halal Kombini Plus by subway, it is best to take Exit 1 at Tsurumai station on the Tsurumai subway Line.

I walked in right away and...
Hi! Welcome!"
The person who gave me a warm welcome was Mr. Arif. Mr. Arif has been in Japan for seven years. I was surprised at how fluent his Japanese was. Mr. Arif is from Lampung, Sumatra, Indonesia. He told me that this store was opened in 2021.
He is very open and friendly!

I looked around the store and was amazed! There are many Indonesian halal food products! I thought this store must be very convenient for Indonesians living in Nagoya. Mr. Arif kindly allowed me to take pictures of the store.

This shelf is for sauces and other items. The store also sells sambal.
Chillies, etc.
Fish balls and meat are also sold frozen.
Here is the cashier. You can see the word "Indonesia" on the wall.
Now, where is the Kerupuk I'm looking for...
I hope this store sells Kerupuk...
Well...?
Oh! I found it!
I finally found it!
Kerupuk is the one saying "SARIRAYA GARLIC CRACKERS" on the bag. There were two types of Kerupuk, but this time I chose the one on the top right!
Credit cards and PayPay can also be used for payment.
I was very satisfied!
Then I bought Kerupuk and took pictures again at home.
I used to eat the same type of Kerupuk in Indonesia. You can see the HALAL label on the bag.
I open this bag....
Now I will take a bite.
The crispy texture spread in my mouth and gave me the taste I was looking for.
Once you start eating it, you won't be able to stop.
It reminds me of when I lived in Indonesia.
The store also offers delivery service for groceries and other items. They also organize various events. Check out their Instagram.
